How 3D Scanning and Parametric CAD Tools Are Transforming Modern Jewelry Workflows

eLUXE3D and Gemvision recently partnered for a live webinar to demonstrate how integrated scanning and CAD technologies are helping jewelers deliver faster, more precise, and fully custom results. The session featured insights from Srdjan Urosev, founder of eLUXE3D, and Tanner Jeffries, instructor and product expert at Gemvision, a division of Stuller.

Together, they walked attendees through a real-time workflow—from capturing a physical engagement ring with 3D scanning to designing a perfectly fitting shadow band in MatrixGold.

Introduction to eLUXE3D and Gemvision

Srdjan Urosev, founder and CEO of eLUXE3D, opened the session by sharing the company’s mission: delivering professional-grade 3D scanning tools built specifically for the jewelry industry. With a background spanning aerospace, dental, and automotive sectors, Urosev explained how eLUXE3D brings advanced scanning capabilities into the hands of jewelers, designers, and manufacturers.

Tanner Jeffries followed by introducing his role at Gemvision, where he trains professionals on tools like MatrixGoldand Countersketch, and supports jewelers through design challenges both in-store and at trade events.

eLUXE3D: Precision 3D Scanning for Jewelry

At the core of the webinar was a live demonstration of the eLUXE3D Platinum scanner, which uses dual 8-megapixel cameras and structured light technology to produce ultra-precise digital replicas of physical jewelry.

Key Highlights:

  • High-resolution scan capability (24 microns with ±10 micron accuracy)

  • Non-contact scanning via structured light projection

  • Automated turntable with swing and rotation for full 3D coverage

  • In-house U.S. support and maintenance based in Rochester Hills, MI

Applications include everything from custom shadow bands and reverse engineering to digital archiving, quality control, and production-ready modeling.

Scanning Workflow: From Physical to Digital in Minutes

Urosev demonstrated how the scanner captures multiple angles of an engagement ring in minutes and processes the data into a watertight STL file. He also explained the role of 3D scanning spray—a temporary coating that reduces reflections and translucency, making it easier to capture highly detailed surfaces.

The scanner’s built-in software automates post-processing steps like mesh generation, noise removal, and hole filling, delivering a clean, CAD-ready file compatible with leading design platforms.

MatrixGold: Designing with Data-Driven Accuracy

After the scan was complete, Tanner Jeffries transitioned to MatrixGold, where he used the STL file to design a custom shadow band around the scanned engagement ring.

Features Demonstrated:

  • Parametric modeling tools for dynamic design changes

  • Gem offset curves, sweep commands, and profile placement for precision

  • Real-time adjustment of ring dimensions, automatically updating all related components

  • Design flexibility across ring shapes, sizes, and gemstone layouts

By combining scan accuracy with parametric design, the workflow eliminates trial and error—allowing for faster delivery, fewer revisions, and improved fit.

Key Questions from the Audience

During the Q&A, both presenters addressed practical questions from participants:

  • Stone Scanning Tips: Urosev discussed scan setting recommendations depending on stone reflectivity and detail requirements.

  • Software Compatibility: eLUXE3D software is compatible with legacy Tupel 3D systems and integrates directly with MatrixGold and other CAD tools.

  • Workflow Optimization: Both emphasized how the combined tools reduce manual labor, prototyping time, and the number of client return visits.

Smarter Tools for Modern Jewelry Design

The session offered a clear demonstration of how technology is raising the standard in custom jewelry. By bringing 3D scanning and CAD together, jewelers can streamline their workflows, eliminate guesswork, and deliver high-precision results that meet today’s consumer expectations.

From in-store scanning to dynamic design, this integrated process puts greater control and confidence into the hands of jewelry professionals. Schedule a consultation to learn more!
